From Friday 25th to Monday 28th September 2015, we are organising a trip to visit Winchester.
We will be staying at the Royal Hotel in St Peter Street, Winchester SO23 8BS.
We will be leaving from the Duke Street car park in Tutbury at about 8.30 am on the Friday and returning early evening on the Monday. The cost for 3 night’s bed, breakfast and evening meal (3 courses with 2 choices per course) will be £284 per person (there are no single rooms left). I know this is more than last year, but last year was exceptional!!
This hotel has just undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment and looks really lovely and is in the heart of the city. In its past it has been a Bishop’s residence and a convent but has been an hotel for the last 150 years! It is about 5 minutes walk from the cathedral.
As well as Winchester Cathedral itself, Salisbury is not far away and also Stonehenge, all of which we will hope to visit. From the information I have so far, I think the cost of visiting Winchester Cathedral is £7.50 for adults and £5.50 for the slightly older generation!
For Salisbury Cathedral, £15 which includes a guided tour, cream tea and guidebook!! This year is quite special as it is the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta at Runnymede and the best preserved of the four surviving manuscripts of Magna Carta is being displayed in a spectacular medieval setting. Hopefully all this will still be on display when we visit!
