10th January 2015 - message from Phil Norris, Chairman of Tutbury Open Gardens
Dear Open Gardeners and Friends
We are now focusing planning this Year’s event which is on the Weekend of 27th and 28th June 2015. To this end, we are holding our next meeting at 7:30pm on Wednesday, 14th January at the usual venue of the Priory Suite at St Mary’s Church.
At this meeting, at which all are warmly invited, we are looking to exchange ideas and develop those that have already been mooted during our last two meetings with express aim of seeking wider support in and participation of the village. We in Tutbury Open Gardens, believe that this well-established annual event (over 20 continuous years) needs some evolutionary change to ensure its longer term survival; but not at the expense of the traditional of proud Tutbury gardeners showing off their varied and excellent gardens to others in the area. We hope by this means, we can over the next few years, develop this weekend into a larger and more diverse event that will appeal to a wider cross-section of the village community.
We are also as in previous years, looking for sponsors of the larger expenditure items such as the Programme, marketing and signage expenses and printing and this year, some six lightweight folding tables for the Duke Street Sales /Operational Centre. 2014 was the last year that the ex-church hall extremely heavy and awkward trestle tables were used.
At this meeting, we are looking this year to elect a core standing committee as well as establishing which gardens are opening this year as well as encouraging new willing volunteers.
I attach a copy of our notes arising out of our review meeting on 8th October 2014 for your further information. If you know of any one else who would be prepared to help in some way or just as importantly, who is contemplating opening their garden this year as either a returnee or a new gardener, please do let me know.
I look forward to seeing you next Wednesday at 7.30pm. It just remains for me to wish you all a happy, prosperous and peaceful New Year.
